Type by position, not sight

Learn Touch Typing

Touch typing uses consistent finger-to-key patterns so your attention can stay on the screen. Begin with the home row, add one reach at a time and return to your anchor keys

Find the home-row anchors

Place the left fingers on A, S, D and F, and the right fingers on J, K, L and semicolon. The raised marks on F and J help both index fingers return without looking.

Each finger owns a vertical zone. Reach from the home position, press lightly and return. Use either thumb for the space bar and the opposite little finger for Shift when typing a capital.

Build the keyboard in layers

First practice home-row combinations, then add the top row and bottom row separately. Short real words help convert isolated reaches into useful transitions.

Do not hide mistakes by rushing. Consistent finger choice matters because repetition is teaching your hands a pattern whether that pattern is helpful or not.

Move from lessons to natural text

Once key positions feel familiar, use sentences and paragraphs with ordinary capitalization and punctuation. Gradually reduce reliance on the visual keyboard and review weak keys after each test.

Keep the pace low enough to use the intended finger for every reach. When a mistake repeats, isolate that pair of keys in a short drill before returning to full sentences.

Practice without staring at the keyboard

Glance at the screen before each short exercise and use the raised marks on F and J to reset your hands. If you lose position, pause and find those anchors by touch instead of searching for every letter visually.

A blank keyboard cover can help later, but it is not required at the beginning. The goal is to replace repeated glances with reliable finger movement while keeping your shoulders, hands and breathing relaxed.
