Why code typing is different
Programming uses dense punctuation, capitalization and indentation. The standard five-character WPM convention is still shown for comparison, but CPM and exact character accuracy better describe code transcription.
Use Tab inside the capture area for indentation. The snippets are original TypingTestDaily launch content and cover several common languages without copying tutorial or product code.
Watch paired symbols and changes of case
Check opening and closing brackets separately, and distinguish parentheses, braces and square brackets. Quotes, semicolons and the Shift combinations used for symbols can interrupt a rhythm that feels easy in prose. Match capitalization exactly, including within variable names.
Follow the displayed indentation and line breaks instead of relying on an editor to insert them. If you repeatedly miss a symbol, slow down for that movement and practice the surrounding sequence before attempting the full snippet again.
This is a code transcription exercise, not a programming assessment. Compare results on similar snippets and keyboard layouts: a punctuation-heavy line makes different demands from a line of familiar identifiers. Use symbol practice for troublesome combinations and paragraph typing to compare your ordinary sentence rhythm.
